Indeed.
I think you should (specially if it was faster).
I find this useful when crazy bruteforces are needed like (?d?l?u=12, ?d=16, etc)
You can generate 5\10GiGs and try them, and get around 2% success. LOL

crap.

@undeath:: Yeah, you're right, the dictionary thing is kind of "carp".
But I found a lot of other good applications for this technique:
1- Generating fake hashes (for benchmarking...etc).
2- Generating powerful, uncrackable passwords.
3- Generating passwords-list that follows a certain, desired pattern, and maybe hashing them for benchmarking again.
4- Designing! Yes, like TheMatrix background (I've done that xD).

Please add this to the accepted list @wiki

A couple other random number generators that may be good sources for those that need them:
gpg --gen-random 2
openssl rand
gpg --gen-random 2
openssl rand

hello ,, nice idea btw i tried this :
cat /dev/urandom | tr -cd '0-9' | fold -w15 >> /home/korsa/15.txt
to make worlist for password (min=15 max=15 -- and only numbers) but it looklike the size will be big
do you any way to make it smaller?

how can i create words with random lenght from 8-15 ?
like:
dfh43/T&DW
&TGdwszgdw
7gf/R3g(%
43rz3)/3z7
"$(hr3h9/§"R/zz
with fold -w8 or fold -b8 its only possible to generate 8-lenght words..

I believe I found the best way to do this.
Unique, pure, random words xD
All in one liner (Only for Linux) (On Windows you can use Cygwin):
(awk is used only to verfiy the length [optional])Code:cat /dev/urandom | tr -cd '[charset]' | head -c[size_of_output_in_bytes] | fold -w[string_length] | sort -u | awk "length==[string_length]"
(sort -u is not necessary too, you would rarely find dupes [optional])
charset = is the desired character-set:
Code:a-z = ?l
A-Z = ?u
0-9 = ?d
\ -~ = ?s
size_of_output_in_bytes = is the maximum output size:
Note: size might increase due to line endings (fold).Code:1024=1024 (1 kilobyte)
1024^2=1048576 (1 megabyte)
1024^3=1073741824 (1 gigabyte)
string_length = is the desired length.
Examples:
This outputs 1 megabyte of 8-length words (All in lower-case).Code:cat /dev/urandom | tr -cd 'a-z' | head -c1048576 | fold -w8 | sort -u | awk "length==8"
Code:...
dnwvbzdh
wkgnhnub
iigbbpjd
pmjnrbaw
iqfltfrm
liaakmnb
pimrhdlo
shgtkwnx
rmizhqzt
ojhukfdl
fxcsznbi
...
This outputs 2 kilobyte of 15-length words (All ?u?l?d) (very nasty xD).Code:cat /dev/urandom | tr -cd 'a-zA-Z0-9' | head -c2048 | fold -w15 | sort -u | awk "length==15"
Code:...

Let's go HARDCORE!

Code:...
