No, you can use an external PSU without problems. You just need to short the 24 or 20+4 pin connector so that the PSU turns on as soon as you turn on it's power switch. Google it, you will easily find the proper way to do it. I personally did not have a wire so I used a paperclip and it works fine (it's been > 1 year).
You can run a separate power supply, talk to Blandy about this. We are straying off topic now but if you have any more questions about hardware or other things we have the "General Talk" and "Hardware" forum here.

Yes, U are right.
Sorry.
On the mobo power-connector from the PSU, there is 1 wire which is green, this is the PSU "turn-on" switch. There should be a black wire next to it which u can use to complete the circuit. All black wires a grounds so in theory, any would do but I would use the one next to the green, 3rd or 5th from the end.
Note: If it blows up / electrocutes u, we are not responsible. We are mearly providing a guide. As mastercracker says, Google it and you'll see
U can buy bridging plug:

No, on this case it's much easier to make bridge with one wire on plug, than to buy from ebay already made one
Yeah its a lot simpler just wiring it manually BUT I gave another option for anybody not wanting to "do it manually"
The alternative is to buy a bigger PSU, like 1200 or 1500 and check they have 6 x PCI-E 6+2 plugs or 8 x PCI-E 6+2 plugs, (I did this and run 4 x 5870s on one PSU). Doing this u really need to make sure it'll run all cards AND your CPU, modo, HDs etc and I would not run it to the total limit. I have a 1200 watt PSU but it does'nt go over ~800 watts.
