DeltaMike, interesting suggestion on generating lots of rules with literal UTF-8 chars at different positions. Are there any hard/practical/performance limits to how big hcmask files I can pass to hashcat?
I don't know of any limits, each mask is processed sequentially. Although I haven't used mask files with more than a few hundred entries. Maybe the devs can give you more precise answers. A practical limit that I know of is that if the keyspaces of the individual masks become too small, then the cracking speed will drop.
That's correct, both points.
