So I'm trying to get into hash cracking as a hobby and am looking for a budget build for my first one.
I know that cracking builds are damn expensive generally so I'm looking for something that's under $1,000 to build.
a regular pc with a gpu that should do it Smile

1070 / 1170
Depending on your budget simply get the best nvidia consumer GPU you can afford. With only one GPU and no 24/7 usage there is not much you need to worry about.

Yeah, I won't use it all the time. Just every now and then for fun.
Any build tutorials you can suggest?

Depends on how many cards you want to install.. but for $1000 I guess you'll get only one or two, so this is a very standard build, just plug the cards into the MB, install an OS, and run hashcat.
Pay attention to the RAM: as least as much as your graphic(s) card(s), and use of SSD is a must Smile
