A more "portable" solution that also doesn't involve skidding up the forums would be to invest in a used copy of Unix in a Nutshell. From there, stare at the pages and try things until you know how to pulverize text files to look the way you want. If you haven't gone insane and retreated to HackForums by the time you're finished, you'll be better than 95% of "enterprise" admins.
