Post: RE: Build configuration

2 1070s will be faster but will consume more power and generate more heat. It’s all preference. If you go with a 1080 you can always throw in another later on.

Additionally, you can get a cheaper 1070 Ti and get *just* under 1080 performance at stock clocks.

I too would stay away from AMD cards. I repurposed an AMD mining rig for hashcat and decided to sell off my inventory for Nvidia. As for distribution software, I use hashtopolis.

I’d probably look for FE cards and a high quality 1600W PSU. A 1080 Ti can use 300W each, already putting you at about 70% of your maximum, not including CPU, HDD, and fans.

I can’t see any cards on that link, but your best options would be GTX 1070 or better. Founders edition cards are preferred for most applications. If power consumption is a problem, stay far from ...

Post: RE: Buying a new machine for Hashcat

Typically, it is recommended to match the amount of computer ram with your GPU VRAM. So for every 1080 Ti you get, you should have 11GB of RAM. In all honesty, I don’t think it is actually a require...

You don't have any OpenCL driver installed for you GPU. Google for the correct OpenCL platform based on your system and install it.

Did you do  Code: -- sudo apt install nvidia-390 -- IIRC that’s all I needed to do to get OpenCL on my Ubuntu box.

Interesting Royce, I don’t recall having to install all that, I think everything came with the one line I had, but maybe I’m just forgetful.

Most likely your drivers are not installed/out of date, OpenCL is not installed, or you don’t have compatable hardware.

If it’s a higher end AMD card, you’re usually safe guessing 300W+. My R9 290 drew a little over 300 and my R9 390X pair drew around 350W each. Got rid of those within a few days. Nvidia says their...
