That doesn't make any sense, I think you're doing something wrong and just haven't realized it. |

Thread: Wordlists
Post: RE: Wordlists
Generating wordlists from bruteforce keyspace is not a good idea. Mask attack will be several orders of magnitude faster. |

Thread: About GPU
Post: RE: About GPU
Both of the cards you listed are OEM-design cards, not reference design cards, and will not be good for hash cracking.
Again, bus width isn't really what you need to be looking at. Do not make your d... |

Thread: About GPU
Post: RE: About GPU
AMD is no longer better than Nvidia. I'd highly recommend you pick up a GTX 980 if you can afford it. R9 290X if you can't. Used 7970 if you can't afford that, either. |

Post: RE: oclHashcat not working
You don't open it, you execute it.
However, Nvidia dropped support for that GPU long ago, so there's no point in executing that file. |

You cannot use oclHashcat with that GPU, it is far too old. |

First start by running ''aptitude purge oclhashcat''
Next, install the proprietary driver for your GPU by downloading the installer directly from amd.com or geforce.com. If you have an AMD GPU you ... |

Yes, 14.12 is broken.
With oclHashcat you should be able to get ~ 130 KH/s out of an R9 280X with the proper driver. |

ati6990, why are you linking to some random third party site for a driver download?

They're bad because straight wordlist attacks aren't usually high yield, which has been my point through this whole thread. |

That's not quite what I meant, though that is one approach. I imagine this doesn't scale very well though, and that's likely why most "hash cracking websites" limit you to 10-15 hashes. |

If you have more than one hash you probably won't be able to brute force past length 5 or 6.
Depending on exactly how many unique salts you have, you may not be able to do any of the things rsberzerk... |

Post: RE: Incrementing Brute Force Attack?
GTX 970 has decent Perf/Watt ratio.
For incremental brute force, look at https://hashcat.net/wiki/doku.php?id=mask_attack
You're not going to be able to brute force past 9 characters, let alone 3... |
