If you tune everything properly, you should be able to run at 60-70C depending on the GPU. But this depends on you knowing how to tune everything properly.

Forget AMD. Currently the best GPUs are GTX 970, 980, 980 Ti, and Titan X. Any of them will be an upgrade over your current HD 7950.

The guide you are following is outdated, it has not been updated in well over a year since most of us abandoned AMD in late 2014. These days if you're using AMD it's easiest to just install 14.04 L...

Actually neither are reference cards. But the PNY certainly has a better cooler.

That's not reference either, has the same cooler as that PNY card. So not bad, but not reference.

Nope, that's not reference either. But it is a good card. To put you out of your misery, the reference GTX 970 is very elusive. It does exist (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/nvidia-geforce-gtx-970-4gb...

Post: RE: Fan Control

You'll probably have better luck controlling the fan speed on the GPUs rather than the chassis fans. GTX 980 is a very low-power GPU, you shouldn't have any issues cooling it.

I understand the chassis fans are what are making noise. What I'm saying is drop the chassis fans down in the bios (bios should have some feature to let it control the fan speed automatically). Then s...

Well, the specific part that was wrong was "GPU always performs better than CPU, even on slow hashes". Slow hashes are especially faster on GPU than CPU (until you start involving memory, that is) bec...

980 is a good card, but that card pictured is not a not reference design card, it is an OEM design card designed for gaming. You really need a reference design card for oclHashcat.
