Thread: Sapphire R9 270 Dual-X slower than HD5850
Post: RE: Sapphire R9 270 Dual-X slower than HD5850
Actually Pitcairn is GCN, I was thinking it was VLIW5, but that's just 7350 - 7670. So Hashcat should be loading a VLIW1 kernel regardless. But it may still be doing something else that is suboptimal ... |

Thread: Sapphire R9 270 Dual-X slower than HD5850
Post: RE: Sapphire R9 270 Dual-X slower than HD5850
Hm, doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
The R9 270 is showing up as Pitcairn, but Pitcairn is HD 7850 -- there aren't any Pitcairn-based R9 GPUs, and your core clock doesn't match the stock clock o... |

Thread: Another one tries to build a Server
Post: RE: Another one tries to build a Server
I'd HIGHLY recommend the GTX 980 over the 280X, especially since the 280X is not available in reference design and you WILL have massive cooling problems using 4x OEM-design cards that close together ... |

Thread: Need advice with 4x 290x and 990fxa-UD5
Post: RE: Need advice with 4x 290x and 990fxa-UD5
1250W PSU is nowhere big enough, 4x 290X can easily draw 1200W by themselves. |

it has been stated repeatedly on these forums that you should avoid buying OEM-design cards. |

You can go with 290X if you'd like, sure. |

Thread: Building a cracking password infrastructure
Post: RE: Building a cracking password infrastructure
GTX 980 is a great card, but R9 295X2 is not ideal for password cracking, especially not in a large multi-GPU environment. If you want to go with AMD then go with the R9 290X. Telsas are worthless for... |

Thread: Building a cracking password infrastructure
Post: RE: Building a cracking password infrastructure
R9 295X is not ideal because it uses a hybrid cooler and has a very low Powertune max target temperature, which causes it to aggressively throttle. Dual GPU cards are almost never the way to go, but t... |

Thread: Building a cracking password infrastructure
Post: RE: Building a cracking password infrastructure
For the algorithms that both Passware and oclHashcat support, oclHashcat is much much faster. Also, if you have a large number of files to crack, Passware does not support cracking them simultaneously... |

Thread: new gpu!!
Post: RE: new gpu!!
i don't understand why people keep recommending the 295X. it is a very poor choice for hashcat.
i would highly recommend the GTX 980. stay away from the GTX 780Ti, that's a waste of money. |

Thread: R9 290X Reference Design Comparison
Post: RE: R9 290X Reference Design Comparison
Reference design cards are all pretty much equal, regardless of manufacturer.
That said, I personally have a strong affinity for HIS, as we've never had to RMA a single HIS card. |

It does not matter for hash cracking, you won't take any hit at all. |
