Post: RE: New gfx card which one?

afaict there is no difference between an R9 280X and a 7970. they appear to be the same gpu. so no, it won't perform better than a 7970.

the speed reported is the total speed divided by the number of unique salts, because each plaintext candidate needs to be re-hashed with each unique salt.

most of the advice you'll find on the forums (including advice i provide) is largely using desktop hardware, which may not be ideal for professional use.

the error you have pasted is not an error. maybe you can paste the real error.

you do not have a 7970, you have a 7790. this gpu is supported in plus 0.15. if you're using 0.15, you likely didn't extract the archive with full paths.

had you searched the forums, you would have known that AMD no longer supports OpenCL on the HD4xxx series. Your driver is also 13.1 Legacy, not 13.1, which is actually 12.4 or 12.6, i can't remember w...

Post: RE: oclhashcat: recommended amount of RAM

each GPU requires 352MB of address space. on top of that, it's a good idea to have enough memory so that the available amount of free memory is at least equal to the amount of vram on the GPU. but it ...

To add to this, oclHashcat will not work with your Radeon HD 4870 anyway, as the HD 4xxx series does not support OpenCL

Post: RE: Cost optimized GPU farm

Stay away from the 2027GR-TRFH. I know it looks tempting, six GPUs in 2U, but it does not work for our purposes. First, it requires passive GPUs with a special mounting bracket (which Teslas have.)...

you don't really gain anything with expansion enclosures since you're still going to hit the 8 GPU limit, plus you have the drawback of increased startup latency due to sharing 8 devices over one lane...

yeah, brute force would take a bit of time with only a single gpu. frt should have them, but they might be cuda only. bitweasil might be willing to generate some for grtcrack. would only take a few...

coolbry95 is correct. you have two salts, therefore each plaintext candidate needs to be hashed with each salt, cutting your effective speed in half. if you had 100 salts, your effective speed would b...
