Thread: About GPU
Post: RE: About GPU
AMD is no longer better than Nvidia. I'd highly recommend you pick up a GTX 980 if you can afford it. R9 290X if you can't. Used 7970 if you can't afford that, either. |

Just because a card is more expensive does not mean it will be better for hash cracking. Graphics cards are designed for graphics, and just because a card is better than another at pushing pixels, doe... |

Both of the cards you listed are OEM-design cards, not reference design cards, and will not be good for hash cracking.
Again, bus width isn't really what you need to be looking at. Do not make your d... |

It's a 165W card, so no, cooling is absolutely not an issue. |

SLI is not used for password cracking, nor should it be enabled when using CUDA.
Always buy reference design, especially in multi-GPU setups. No exceptions. OEM cards are designed for gaming worklo... |

Oh, your problem here is that you have 25 handshakes in your hccap:

It throttles not only for heat but, also power consumption. It's a 450W card in a 300W package, so it's going to throttle hard regardless of temperature.
Theoretically this card is capable of ~ 290... |

RX 480 is the same architecture AMD has been pushing for the past 5 years, this time with a long-overdue process shrink. AMD claims it's a 150W GPU; at 28nm it would probably draw around 275W, and mov... |

I probably shouldn't have called the RX 480 a "flagship", but it is currently their top-of-the-line Arctic Islands offering, so let's not split hairs. You launch a new product line, and the best you c... |

First you claim Nvidia is a software company, and now you're claiming AMD is a small company? I'm utterly baffled at how you view the world.

Command is fine. Problem is cuLaunchKernel() returned 701, which is CUDA_ERROR_LAUNCH_OUT_OF_RESOURCES. You might be able to get it to run with a lower -n value. |
