VEGA is already faster than 1080 in OpenCL benchmarks. Take a look at the bitcoin mining.

My heart is pretty big, but you're way more optimistic about AMD than I am ;) |

Remove MESA. Install the proprietary Nvidia driver. Install the Intel OpenCL CPU runtime. |

Ryzen certainly wasn't first, heh. Does nobody remember VIA Padlock? I used to love using Via Nano CPUs in my Linux firewalls and SSL terminators. |

Thread: 1080 TI - new best bang for buck?
Post: RE: 1080 TI - new best bang for buck?
My pessimism is grounded in realism though ;) Keep in mind that Bitweasil and I predicted AMD's sharp downturn back in 2012. Even though the 7970 had just been released and was by all rights a fantast... |

Thread: Quad 1080Ti Setup
Post: RE: Quad 1080Ti Setup
1200W PSU will not be sufficient. There's no reason to skimp on the PSU, go with 1600W 80plus Platinum or Titanium.
I would go with 64GB DDR4 for that build, but you'll probably be fine with 32GB. |

Knew it. Your risers are certainly to blame. If you're using the USB-style risers, get better quality USB cables and ensure all of the connections are firm and properly seated. If you have the ribbon ... |

Yes, you MUST remove the backplates for any card which has a card adjacent to it. |

Thread: Budget cracking machine
Post: RE: Budget cracking machine
AMD dropped support for VLIW cards so you will not be able to use your 5970 with Hashcat. A 400W PSU wouldn't power those hungry Opterons plus a 5970 anyway, you'd start a fire. |

FWIW I'm not planning to move to 16.04 for at least another 7 months.
If you're using AMD GPUs, then yes things will be different moving from 14.04, as you would use fglrx on 14.04 but amdgpu-pro o... |

I do not use Afterburner as I do not use Windows. I use nvidia-settings/nvidia-smi, and yes I increased the power limit from 250W to 300W:

Thread: Detection of multiple CPU
Post: RE: Detection of multiple CPU
Yeah. OpenCL only exposes one CPU "device" to the application that represents all physical and logical processing cores. It's actually much better that way, very smart way to do it. |
