clinfo only shows one gpu, so the problem is with your opencl platform, not with hashcat.

the board can physically support it with extenders, but i don't know if the uefi firmware can address that many pci devices. only one way to find out: try it.

windows will work with more than four gpus.

if you have a 6970 then a 7970 would definitely be a good upgrade. a second 6970 would be a good upgrade as well, especially since used prices are cheap. no, you definitely don't have to go with a 799...

afaict there is no difference between an R9 280X and a 7970. they appear to be the same gpu. so no, it won't perform better than a 7970.

the speed reported is the total speed divided by the number of unique salts, because each plaintext candidate needs to be re-hashed with each unique salt.
