Just basic, elementary maths. Keyspace for this attack is 16^64. Fastest GPU (Titan X) can crack sha256 at 2.2 GH/s. This means you would need 1.6x10^54 Titan X GPUs to crack this password in one mill...

Post: RE: VCL CL_OUT_OF_HOST_MEMORY & (Mis)configuration

the "no version information" line is innocuous and irrelevant, you may ignore it. i've already reported this (as well as a couple other bugs) to MOSIX a few weeks ago. there is no workaround at the...

The error is from hashcat, not vcl. It is expecting to find the AMD Display Library for temp reporting, fan control, etc. Try running hashcat with --gpu-temp-disable

yeah it would make sense to do that. you can probably just comment out all the ADL code.

    Thread: VCL network question
Post: RE: VCL network question

VCL uses TCP/IP and is therefore routable, so yes, you can have nodes on different subnets. However, your router likely does not have the bandwidth necessary to support nodes on other subnets. The ba...

The bottleneck would still be there if they were on 1Gbps to the switch, yes. No, you would need a 10Gbit uplink if you had 20 GPUs to achieve near-native performance. If you had two GPUs you could a...

Post: RE: VCL network question

yeah, you can do ethernet channel bonding. it's extremely easy to set up. with four GPUs you could get away with 2Gbps to the broker, and 1Gbps to the compute nodes. i just ordered a 4x DDR (20Gbps) ...

it would be much, much slower than just cracking locally, regardless of how many gpus you had. it's opencl middleware, so everything is sent to the compute nodes in real time. therefore you need a ...

VCL does not use Catalyst. Use --force with vclHashcat to ignore the message about the driver. Your compute nodes absolutely must be using 12.8.

it's not a huge pain to configure the broker on a compute node, no. just follow all of the instructions in the wiki for the broker configuration on one of your compute nodes.
