Thread: Speed Problem with R9 295X2
Post: RE: Speed Problem with R9 295X2

Power supply is irrelevant. The 295X2 requires nearly 550W when using oclHashcat, but it is only a 500W card. So the firmware will throttle the GPUs to keep the power draw under 500W. This is what AMD...

Benchmark only runs for a few seconds, not usually enough time for it to throttle. It's also possible that you were not giving your GPUs enough work to do in your first screenshot.

No. Again, power supply is irrelevant. The card will do everything it can to keep power consumption under 500W, and that means throttling the GPUs.

correct, you can essentially cut atom's 6990 speeds in half. it will be a little bit faster due to higher clocks, but that will give you a good estimate. I believe d3ad0ne may also have some 6970 ben...

correct, it means that plus is over 2x faster than pyrit with its precomputed tables.

md5crypt is salted, so each password candidate has to be re-hashed with each unique salt.

Yes, it is normal to see ~50% speed reduction for multi-hash vs single hash.

you're using your graphics card for password cracking, while also playing a game that makes heavy use of your graphics card, and you're wondering why the speed drops?

Post: RE: Speed drop after playing game (Crysis3)

why are you using --gpu-loops 128? 128 is the default, you do not need to manually specify that. and you will not get full acceleration using the default of 128, you need to use 4096 for full accelera...

hybrid attack would be much faster than using the rules engine for that, and it scales better.

The rate is likely falling because the GPU is throttling itself. The 295X has a very low Powertune target temperature -- it has a hard-coded maximum value of only 75C (compared to the 290X, which has ...

Powertune doesn't just throttle for heat, it also throttles for power consumption (hence its name.) You are aggressively overclocking, so you are surely exceeding the amount of power the card is willi...

No, it absolutely is not the best card to buy for oclHashcat. You are sorely mistaken. 2x 290X are cheaper, faster, and behave much more civilly. GTX 980 however is the all-around best card to buy. ...

Again, it's not just about temperature. It's also about how much power the card is drawing. That's why it's called Powertune. The firmware on the GPU will not allow the card to draw more watts than it...
