You can use ''-w 1'' but it will still probably prematurely kill your laptop. We strongly recommend against running oclHashcat on laptops.

what does 'amdconfig --lsa' show? what driver does Xorg.log show that you're using? have you tried re-installing the driver? do you have dkms installed?

you do not have a 7970, you have a 7790. this gpu is supported in plus 0.15. if you're using 0.15, you likely didn't extract the archive with full paths.

Your -n/-u values do not make any sense. Just use -w 3 instead.

well, moore's law is projected to taper off this year, and gpus seem to have tracked moore's law better than cpus.

5850 will not be supported for much longer, AMD is dropping VLIW5 support in the next driver release. I wouldn't buy any AMD card that isn't GCN.

can you hexdump that character and find out what it is? it's showing up as two separate characters on the forum, as \xe2\x80\xa2\x66

yeah, that's it. what you sent me in pm was \x95\x66\x1a so it looks like you were just missing the fourth byte there. 0x0a is the newline character.
