Thread: Radeon R9 390X News
Post: RE: Radeon R9 390X News
There's no innovation here. AMD's game plan for last generation and the next is simply "let's keep adding more cores to our aging architecture." Obviously not a scalable plan, and that's why they're r... |

Post: RE: Radeon R9 390X News
Not really. Nvidia is still the de facto compute vendor. AMD was never competitive in that space.
But remember that GPGPU is nothing more than a hack. Manycore CPUs will eventually displace GPUs fo... |

Post: RE: Radeon R9 390X News
When I say "manycore CPU" I'm talking about a Xeon Phi-like accelerator, such as if Adapteva ever made the 4096-core variant of their Epiphany chip that they claim they can make.
If you saw Katja ... |

Sounds like an ASIC hang, then. Process is probably stuck in IOWAIT. Are you overclocking? |

No one has been able to reproduce this alleged bug, so I'm going to say it's probably something with your particular configuration or how you're invoking hashcat. |

you can't really claim that you followed that guide since the guide tells you to use ubuntu 12.04 lts, not ubuntu 14.04 lts.
14.04 was just released less than two weeks ago, and is not officially s... |

I'm seeing some good speed increases with the 12.8 build from 0.09. Catalyst 12.9+ isn't working with VCL so I cannot test.
I would really like to stick with 12.8 for a while. Yes it's "old," but i... |

Post: RE: R9 Fury Nitro 1100 mhz gpu clock - so slow - w...
It throttles not only for heat but, also power consumption. It's a 450W card in a 300W package, so it's going to throttle hard regardless of temperature.
Theoretically this card is capable of ~ 290... |

RX 480 is the same architecture AMD has been pushing for the past 5 years, this time with a long-overdue process shrink. AMD claims it's a 150W GPU; at 28nm it would probably draw around 275W, and mov... |

I don't think it's actually "redesigned", it seems to just be a die shrink. |
