Thread: vcl woes
Post: RE: vcl woes
Yes, that is the error you will receive if you are not using the vclHashcat binaries.
Maybe atom can do another quick release, or give you a beta license so that you can continue testing. |

Thread: Fury X has joined the game
Post: RE: Fury X has joined the game
R9 Fury X is basically just 2x 7970 squeezed onto a single chip, so there is absolutely no way it's "sub-275W." I'm sure they make aggressive use of PowerTune to try to keep the power below 275W, but ... |

No, the specs confirm that it IS 2x 7970 on a single chip.
7970: GCN, 2048 stream processors, 32 compute units, 4.3 billion transistors
Fury X: GCN, 4096 stream processors, 64 compute units, 8.9 b... |

Except "updating GCN" to AMD just means a die shrink and adding more cores.
Edit: apparently not even a die shrink. 1000mm^2!!! |

All of the reviews I've seen today prove that this card is exactly what I said it would be. It's a 450W monster that violates the PCI-e spec and makes extensive use of PowerTune to attempt to keep thi... |

Thread: Ryzen 1800X CPU with 1080 Ti GPU
Post: RE: Ryzen 1800X CPU with 1080 Ti GPU
1080 Ti is an excellent choice. The best choice, in fact.
If you plan to use the CPU for cracking then I'd avoid Ryzen. Its AVX2 is a lie and they dropped XOP. |

@NikosD - the 1800X is absolutely not the best mainstream CPU for password cracking. Not even a little bit. We've been over this. |

Post: RE: Ryzen 1800X CPU with 1080 Ti GPU
You don't even need benchmarks, it's a matter of very simple maths:
Ryzen7 1800X - 3600 Mhz, 8 cores, 2-way SMT, 128-bit registers == 3600000 * 8 * 2 * 4 == 230400000 32-bit IOPS
Core i7-7700K - 4... |

This is hashcat. We don't aim for the mainstream, we aim for the extreme. We can and will compare the 1800X to the 7820X and beyond -- just as we compare the GTX 1080 Ti to the GTX 1060. In this commu... |

All right, the results are in.
I'm so sorry, guys. I know I said that the 7700K would be ~13% faster, and it's hard for me to admit this, but I was wrong.

I've not investigated why Keccak is so much faster. Might have something to do with the compiler.
As far as "fraction of the price" goes:
7700K $300, motherboard $40 == $340 total
1800X $460, mother... |

Sigh... again, this is Hashcat, and all we care about here is Hashcat, and how Hashcat performs. Vega is just more shit from the same asshole. The card is worthless for Hashcat. |

K520 is 5.3x slower than a GTX 970 and 6x slower than a GTX 980, so probably not worth the cost. |
