    Thread: Noob Question about Hashes
Post: RE: Noob Question about Hashes

tools like HashTag.py are worthless at best, and at worse are very misleading and may cause you to waste a ton of time. if the hash has an identifier, then you already know what it is and you don'...

first, we crack hashes, not encryption. second, an attacker wouldn't have to crack the passwords. they would simply run all of the passwords in your database back through your function with your key,...

I'm sorry, I just assumed that since you provided absolutely no context, and since you posted it to the Support forum, that this somehow related to password cracking. In short, if you knew what you w...

Taking the fans off of this GPU wouldn't really do anything, because it has vertical heatsink fins, not horizontal. So yeah, my recommendation would be to use a different GPU. There's really no good r...

Post: RE: 4x SLI GTX 1060 Hashcat Rig

I have different advice. 1. No such thing as an "overkill CPU" now that Hashcat can use both CPU & GPU cooperatively, and modern CPUs with AVX2 are actually fast enough to make a noticeable differe...

RAM is pretty cheap, better to have "too much" than not enough. RAM also helps with tasks like wordlist manipulation (e.g., ''sort -u -S 32000M''), or using hashcat features like --show and --left aga...

not sure about why it's reporting -1%, but all the other issues (autotuned to 1, low utilization) indicate you are not giving it enough work to do.

You're running a straight dictionary attack against a fast hash, so it is impossible to gain GPU acceleration as you do not have an amplifier. You then made an already-slow attack even slower by using...

Post: RE: Pipe is -very- slow

It's a potential workaround, not a magic fix. Pipe incurs more host-device transfers and is more sensitive to PCI-e bus speed & latency. You should be using cpu hashcat for this attack.

Post: RE: Pipe is -very- slow

It depends on the hardware and the workload. There's no "one size fits all" answer, you just have to know your tools. In this case, it looks like Mem5 has a really underpowered CPU if he's only pullin...

The error in your screenshot is from your operating system, not hashcat. You might want to find a Windows tutorial before looking for a hashcat tutorial.

if this is a bug, it's likely a bug in the driver or ADL. hashcat just reports what the driver reports. so there's not really anything that can be done in hashcat to fix this. have you tried withou...
