hashed with a salt is all you need provided 1. you use a password hashing algorithm and not a cryptographic hashing algorithm, and 2. you use a unique, randomly generated salt for each hash in your da...

well, it wouldn't be random letter combinations. they would be probabilistically-ordered. but yes, it would only try the 26^8-th most probable combinations, without trying the more unlikely ones.

i didn't actually read his example, but yes, it would be the same thing. and both would be probabilistically ordered regardless. and in both cases you do not need --pw-max regarding how you're calc...

If you're getting an ASIC hang during NTLM brute force, then it is very likely a power issue. How big is your PSU?

Those 290Xs will draw around 320W on NTLM brute force, so your GPUs alone are likely pulling around 960W. Doesn't leave much power available for everything else in your system. Plus that's a pretty lo...

The speeds look fine to me, atom. Both the single hash speeds and the multi-hash speeds. Are you perhaps looking at the speed of the Firepro card?

1250W PSU is nowhere big enough, 4x 290X can easily draw 1200W by themselves.

not sure why you would waste your money on two mid-range GPUs and have to fight with heat & power requirements, instead of just buying one high-end GPU which will be just as fast without the headache.

by my calculation, 2x 7870 Ghz Edition would only be 16.28% faster than a single 7970 Ghz Edition, but will require 120W more power. not worth it, just get a 7970.

you aren't giving the left side enough work to do, therefore it cannot reach full acceleration.
