Post: RE: 980GTX MSI vs Reference
There's nothing special about superclocked or factory overclocked cards. They just have a bios that comes set at higher clocks, which you can easily do yourself. |

Thread: 980GTX MSI vs Reference
Post: RE: 980GTX MSI vs Reference
I never said reference designs cost more -- I said they cost more to manufacture. And the chipset manufacturer dictates the price, therefore the profit margins are very slim. This is why several OEMs... |

No, oclHashcat no longer supports SL3, and hasn't for quite some time now. |

Thread: 1080 TI - new best bang for buck?
Post: RE: 1080 TI - new best bang for buck?
R9 Fury X was never the best.
GTX 1080 Ti and GTX Titan XP should have clock-for-clock identical performance. But it won't have the best bang for the buck. If we look at MD5 perf per dollar:
GTX... |

Well... Yes and no ;)
You're correct: you should take the total build cost into consideration. There's a reason we do not offer the GTX 1070 in the Brutalis in a clustered configuration, it throws t... |

Post: RE: 1080 TI - new best bang for buck?
Yeah I didn't realize until later that the price points Nvidia advertised were for OEM cards, not FE. We used FE prices when calculating the new Brutalis price points.
However, if you're simply looki... |

Everyone please note: when Flomac says "So new is always better in energy terms. And the performance of a GPU generation scales very good under hashcat. 30% more performance result in 30% more energy ... |

My pessimism is grounded in realism though ;) Keep in mind that Bitweasil and I predicted AMD's sharp downturn back in 2012. Even though the 7970 had just been released and was by all rights a fantast... |

Look at the block diagram for the board. The board has 4x PLX chips, two per CPU. That means each CPU directly controls two GPUs on two PLX chips. So you need both CPUs. On older models you could get ... |

You can also use attack mode 6 (dict + mask) with oclhashcat-plus and use the salts as a dictionary. |

It's a really bad idea, all you're doing is wasting disk space. And if you have a 100 GB wordlist, you're doing something very, very wrong. |

GPU makes sense -- as I said, you should not be running straight wordlist attacks against fast hashes on GPU. However, there shouldn't be that much of a drop between single hash and multihash on CPU. ... |

Hard drive and RAM can both be a bottleneck, yes.
You also have to take into consideration startup & shutdown time, there is overhead there where you are not doing any cracking.
