Post: RE: AMD Radeon R9 290X

AMD published some teasers back in December of last year, but haven't said a word about it since. they continue to release GCN-based GPUs, so i presume GCN2 just simply doesn't exist.

ok. so, assuming the rumored core configuration is correct, we can conservatively expect a 25-30% increase in performance over the 7970 Ghz Edition, and optimistically expect a 37.5% increase. and pos...

nah, it's not risky. that's precisely what the r&d budget is for ;) we'll toss 8 into a tyan ft77 and see how they perform. if they aren't stellar, we can still use them internally.

ouch, that price! you can buy 2x 7990 for that... but i wonder if it's more because it's a special edition or whatever. or maybe this company is just being greedy, trying to rip off the suckers like m...

those temps are almost exclusively with the boosted clock. at the base 800 Mhz i think (hope!) it will do a little bit better.

we'll do some serious experimentation with ours when we get them, but my hope is that they can be passively cooled.

first, you're not going to brute force past length 8 on CPU. you probably won't even get past length 7. second, you don't need to specify --pw-max third, -c with -a 3 does nothing forth, you can r...

None of the Maxwell cards have issue with heat. Even the Titan X at +225 runs low-mid 60s.

You're trying to compare single hash brute force vs multi-hash brute force speeds. Apples and oranges comparison. 10.5 GH/s for multi-hash when your single hash kernel gets 16.6 GH/s is pretty damn go...

Usually on register-bound algorithms like MD4 and MD5 the card runs close to TDP (or over TDP in the case of AMD, which is why we have to set Powertune to +50%.) Titan X for example draws 235W at +200...

K520 is 5.3x slower than a GTX 970 and 6x slower than a GTX 980, so probably not worth the cost.
