Could be anything. The file may be damaged or maybe a slightly different format is used in newer versions of bitcoind. |

the actual password noted in the wiki article is "507ZEy@l" but I can't crack the hash with hashcat. |

You should tell hashcat what it is supposed to do. All you told it is what hash to attack. |

Depending on your budget simply get the best nvidia consumer GPU you can afford. With only one GPU and no 24/7 usage there is not much you need to worry about. |

at any time you can simply quit hashcat when running the command philsmd gave you and later resume the cracking by running "hashcat --restore" |

Sorry, I misunderstood your question. No, you cannot simply add -w (or any other options) when using --restore. |

Of course those numbers are not always identical. Otherwise there'd be no reason to include them in the hash string. There should not be any spaces anywhere. |
