these are mostly variations of hash(salt.pass) or hash(pass.salt) or similar stuff that is also implemented on its own.

you have to multiply the speed by amount of salts to get the real speed.

4 wordlists will probably mean way to many combinations to finish in your lifetime (unless they are small). Of course you can redirect the output to a file as well. combinator list1 list2 > result

all you did with ?a was defining the custom mask ?1 (-1 ?a). I think hashcat has some mask it defaults to when the user does not specify one.
