There may be hardware damage that is not as easily triggered by the older driver. All in all it sounds like defective hardware. |

you have not specified a mask, hence hashcat uses its default mask which does not include your password. |

There is no such thing as a "raw bruteforce" in hashcat. You can see the default mask it is using in your status output. |

A MSSQL 2000 hash consists of two hashes, one with the correct case and one with all upper case letters. Hashcat probably simply ignores one of them.
