Post: RE: Trying to run a hash against Hashcat

My answer should have made you realise that no matter what hardware you have, there is no way you are going to crack a 112bit DES key.

Is it possible to attempt to crack this with hashcat? yes Is it possible to test even a reasonably sized subset of the keyspace with hashcat? no

ocl* versions are for GPU only. If you want to crack WPA with CPU you won't manage to avoid aircrack. But be warned, it is really slow. (WPA on CPU in general)

you are probably using bad risers. If you are using x1 risers only you need to connect/fuse some contacts on the x16 slot. (don't ask me which ones)

How do you try to run hashcat? Does hashcat -b cause the same behaviour? Are your devices correctly listed by hashcat -I ?

A faulty card could certainly explain that weird behaviour. Try running hashcat without the defective card.

You don't need a different hashcat version to use your cpu. See --opencl-device-types option Use --potfile-disable to disable checking of already cracked hashes.
