these are special characters interpreted by bash. You need to either (single) quote them or escape them.

You need to install an icd loader. On ubuntu you need to install ocl-icd-libopencl1 (and possibly nvidia-opencl-icd-340)

In the worst case a 290x can draw 400W each. A 1500W PSU ain't gonna cut it. Don't buy AMD.

Such an attack mode is not implemented. You'd need to emulate it using custom generated mask files.

2x 7970 is simply twice as fast as a single 7970. No need for an extra benchmark.

unless there is a different way to check if the seed has been successfully decrypted other than the keccak hashing mentioned by philsmd above it's impossible to retrieve the password using the first 8...
