Actually the common practice of storing hashes as a hex-string is just as stupid as using a simple hash function like md5 for protecting passwords. Just a waste of space.

use the --keyspace argument

you need to omit the hash when using --keyspace btw, if you're trying to set up distributed cracking you might be interested in https://github.com/s3inlc/hashtopolis

If you are indeed trying to bruteforce an AES key, that's not going to succeed within your lifetime. Besides, raw AES is not supported by hashcat.
