the actual password noted in the wiki article is "507ZEy@l" but I can't crack the hash with hashcat.

you can use policygen from PACK (https://thesprawl.org/projects/pack/) or write your own candidate generator

Thank you for reporting back! The problem with those kind of gpu coolers is that they only whirl the air around, but don't actually remove the hot air, as opposed to blower fan coolers. A closed case ...

No, it doesn't. -D selects the device type and 2 is for GPU. Also, for functional testing the workload factor is irrelevant.
