It depends largely on xorg.conf. Hashcat doesn't do any reordering, it takes it 1:1 as it comes from the runtime.

You also want to use Intels OpenCL runtime for your CPU, it's usually more than twice as fast as the AMD one.

In theory you just need to know the first, maybe 8 byte, to check if the password was correct. The salt length is limited, however, but can be of dynamic length if it's not too long.
