thats not completely true, they are just not working for fast hashes like md5. for slow hashes like wpa they work, as slow hashes use the hashcat cpu rule engine.

the speed increase are mostly small but you get a ton of unpredictable problems that make you mad. all in all, overclocking is not what you want. |

The multihash cracking of unsalted 64 bit based hash algorithms like SHA512 and Keccak is known to be broken in v1.21. It will be fixed with next version. Sorry! |

It's also because with mask-attack (or general with brute-force) we can do some optimization because we know what comes "next". Therefore we can make use of meet-in-the-middle etc. |
