If you want performance there's no way around rewriting the crypto functions on gpgpu. Or you do it half-way. Do only the slow stuff on GPU and the rest on CPU with a crypto library.

There's no need to pay. I'd suggest you simply use this rule: ^J $1 $2 $3 and let it run through a big wordlist

Sounds like your hashes are not SHA1 or you have a bad export, maybe with salts missing.

For descrypt, FPGA is defenitely an alternative as they are really good in cracking DES, which is what descrypt bases on. Not sure if there's a cracker out there.

That will work indeed. Note that in this case you're cracking ISO-8859-15, so make sure not use use UTF-8 in your editor.

The problem is, if the hash was calculated while the encoding was set to UTF-8, you must attack it using UTF-8, too. Attacking masks with UTF-8 is a bit more complicated, see this blog post how to do ...

Also, if you want to avoid escaping problems just put them into a file and use the filename as charset
