Don't think it's a bug. There are many factors that influence the keyspace. Make sure you understood the basic concept

Single rules (-j) are supposed to work in this case, just -r is not.

If you switch to oclHashcat v1.32 this will not happen anymore. It will use the wordlist as base whetever -a you choose in hybrid mode.
