Mixed GPU types is fully supported on oclHashcat-lite, not on oclHashcat-plus. You have to run multiple instances if you want to use it with oclHashcat-plus and manually split the workload accordingly...

yes, two hd6990 will double your speed. two hd6990 are faster than two hd7970.

personally I would not buy the hdXX50 versions. If you really want it as cheap as possible, the hd5870 is not bad.
