Why does it seem too low. There's plenty of algorithm that slow. The only way to attack them is with targeted wordlists.

You can also put all characters into a file (all in one line) and then use -1 filename Should save you headache about the escaping

make sure the cracked hashes can be found in hashcat.pot, then use a combination of the --show and --username switches.
