Yes, hashcat fully supports them. But they are very unstable and therefore they often crash. To verify it's not hashcat, compile hashcat from sources with DEBUG=1 make and then run the same command...

Yes, that's true. You have either switch to windows, buy a new gpu with amdgpu-pro support or stick to an older distribution. Thanks AMD :)

Make sure its using either \n or \r\n crlf, not \r as mac uses it (used it?).

Given the fact that it's exactly 16 asterisks after the F, I'd guess the part between S and F (inclusive) is some fixed salt. Only way to find out is to look at the source (or reverse the binary).

remember that wpa kernels are very slow, and his system might be much slower than your 7970's :) Maybe for him takes it 1 hours to reach 2% while it's just 5 minutes for you
