You could call it a missing feature, since 32-char LMs actually are 2 hashes not 1 hash. But calling it a bug would be wrong. Plus you have the possibility to manually workaround.

Please stick to 7bit characters for the pathname, it will save you a lot of headache.

There's no way to get back the original string, since there's too much data lost. All you can do is to collide it. Since it's a 32 bit checksum, you will be flooded with possible collisions, even on C...
