I also recommend permute.bin in case you know the chars/letters but not the ordering - that also includes the space. Then pipe it to oclHashcat.

there's no way to do that with the existing kernels, but since we went OSS you can hack one of them to do what you like. I'd recommend kernel source of -m 1400 as a template

This has nothing to do with the hash used, it's all just the iteration count. If you iterate MD5 a million times it would be even slower.

Yes, you need the boot mode. Note that there's also a whirlpool boot mode. If you don't know which hash was used you need to run through both modes.
