will latest version markov kicked in and changed everything. you can try --markov-disable. the wiki needs to be updated, that is true

never saw 16 byte salts in the wild before. its however no problem, i can allow them. can be more specific what is possible? for example, is 1 byte salt possible, too?

Salted hashes do not include such a check. If you want it added you might want to create a TRAC ticket?
