There shouldn't be. I have never tried with that many but I have run 32 cores (hyper threaded) without a problem. Programatically hashcat will detect the number of cores and use them.

This has been fixed. It seems a workaround for XP was accidentally removed at v0.41. Forgot to mention this was fixed for .43 beta.

Any distro will work. HashCat is developed on Ubuntu 10.04LTS so its always a safe bet that it will work.
