You can still find long passwords. If you use easy passwords they will be found really fast.

The mmo "Flyff" uses a smiliar way. Its md5($salt.$pass) where salt is kikugalanet. It worked in oclhashcat but there is no mode for this hash type in plus. 63a517a37b28d05c87175ae657735064:kikugal...
