Post: RE: identify hash with duckgoduck

Dislike. The article was clearly written by an amateur who didn't bother to check the facts and lacks deep understanding of how cryptographic hash functions work. Not the first, not the last, though...

First thing, it's a raw wordlist attack, those tend to have lower speeds/utilisation than mutation / brute force attacks. Second, I can see that the cache is set to default (32MB), which is why the wo...

... Did you notice 1/35 segment ? It splits the wordlist into 35 pieces, loads first, runs attack on it, flushes, loads second, etc.

| = OR. So no, you cant do wordlist1 mask1 wordlist2 mask2 If you would do the math, how long would that take, you prolly wouldnt ask. No goes to rule file too - Oclhashcat isnt designed for it.

It would be good if they raise the limit of properly working GPUs on Windows to 8 too, but without breaking anything again.

Yeah, a 7970 will be faster than a 5870, it's a better choice. A 7970 is hotter than a 5870 though, by around 20-70W. The higher the core frequency the better, if it stays stable. Noise is usually ...
