Yeah, a 7970 will be faster than a 5870, it's a better choice.
A 7970 is hotter than a 5870 though, by around 20-70W.
The higher the core frequency the better, if it stays stable.

Try generating hashes of known plaintexts and then bruteforcing those hashes. |

Yes.
As a matter of fact, any GPU of sm >=2.0 has modern CUDA support.
For GeForce, it's any GPU older or belonging to 4xx series. |

Guess we're looking at the best Maxwell perf/$; perf/TDP card, folks.
Probably the best card for hashcracking among all vendors in aforementioned "disciplines", but this needs confirmation. |

That's better.
980 Ti is close to 970 by effective performance, but GTX Titan X is substantially better than 980 Ti (980 gets the silver medal).
'course, this is using actual TDP vs the one manu... |

"--gpu-watchdog 0" is the flag to disable the watchdog.
Just add it to the command line and the error should be gone. |
