You need to download a 883MB package just to install the beta driver needed to run latest betas of cudacats. Crazy if you ask me.

No, it's actually simple: oclhc-plus is far more optimized than oclhc, that's why you get better speeds. The speeds are ok for 8 VB hashes.

If you're comparing the same generation(7xxx, for example), then it's the number of stream processors(shaders) and core clock. The higher, the better.
