Thread: Which step am I missing - DES-OFB Key
Post: RE: Which step am I missing - DES-OFB Key
You have mis-understood the implementation of DES-OFB somewhat. Each round of DES-OFB gives you 64 bits of keystream, that is XORed with your plaintext to give you 64-bits of ciphertext. I'm not sure ... |

Thread: Brute-force with only half of the cipher text
Post: RE: Brute-force with only half of the cipher text
You don't have enough information to be able to recover a key.
Put simply, if you only know the first three bytes of the ciphertext, then that leaves 5 bytes unknown, which leaves up to (2^40) = 1,... |

Hi Atom,
I am currently running hashcat in mode 14000 (DES-ECB) and it displays the following candidates:-
Candidates.#1....: $HEX[7305bf613969ed4f] -> $HEX[ff6fbfffbf17ed4f]

In the context of my question, an "invalid" key doesn't just mean the wrong key for my hash - it means a key that cannot be used with the DES cipher..
I understand a candidate is - just not what th... |

Post: RE: Error with estimated time
Cheers @philsmd - I went to test it and run into another issue preventing -m 14000 from working, so I raised it as an issue in Github.
Thanks! |
