By mistake typed -m 00 instead of -m 0 and didn't receive any
error message. Not important, I guess, but it's a detail.
The program however still works as MD5 with -m 00, but didn't

Looks like is still happening with hashcat.
Had a list, run once to clean, no rules and got a number of found ones.
Run a second time and few more were found.
Ok, a third run just to see what happe... |

While testing, using a 18 md5 hashes file, running -a 6 and -1 ?l?d?u?s ?1?1:
Test using john.dic and then example.dic.
First with only ?1, then with ?1?1. Will get a crash with ?1?1 or ?1?1?1.
