in your original example you have -output-file you must use --output-file (notice 2 dashes) or simply use -o out.txt

yes but you need to add the ?a for each position of the password length. for example if you think the password is 6 characters then you need ?a?a?a?a?a?a for 8 characters you want ?a?a?a?a?a?a?a?a ...

also you do not need to create a file with 10 length numeric. using a bruteforce mask of ?d?d?d?d?d?d?d?d?d?d should do the same thing. the plus side you don't need to store a huge wordlist file.
