I guess a developer or at least somebody able to debug the src/brain.c code would need to try to troubleshoot, repdroduce and try to fix this problem.
Are you sure the disk isn't busy writting ?

why do you not use a hash file, i.e. a file that contains the hash.
The shells (cmd/bash) have various special symbols that need to be escaped, it's always safer to use a file. |
