How to extract hashes ? You can use fgdump, pwdump, ophcrack, samdump, etc. Let google find it for you.

Read help/wiki/usage. You missed something do to (dictionnary attack ? mask ? etc.), that's why hashcat is waiting for your input in stdin.

Which algorithms ? You probably want to go for GPUs only. Radeon R9 295X2 (but $1500) Radeon R9 290X (~$600)

I had troubles using the ULM command line tools. I am using sort -u on 20 gb files without issues.

I have a HD 7970, but the full charset bruteforce is still long. I can't find GPU rainbow tables for LM ! Do you have a link ?
