I occasionally have had similar issues. My work around was to set --gpu-temp-disable on hashcat and let Afterburner handle the fan control.

There seems to be something funky even with the first file as well. Less than 10 million candidates in a 512MiB file => Avg password length is 54 characters

Finally got done testing on 5.1.0, and exactly the same thing happens. Only the part above 4GB is written to file.

I have not, per say. The trick I use with loading youtu.be et.al. is really to regain lost performance, due to whatever causes the issue.
